London hosts meeting on Iran’s health sector investment opportunities

TEHRAN - Investment potentials in Iran’s health sector were introduced to British investors in a meeting held in London on July 4, IRNA reported.

The one-day meeting was held by the British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce (BICC) and the UK’s Department for International Trade. The event also discussed investment opportunities in the Iranian pharmaceutical, life sciences and humanitarian sectors, the BICC website reported.

Iran has a nearly €100 billion healthcare sector primarily EU dominated with pharmaceuticals alone being worth close to €2 billion, the report added.

At the meeting, the UK’s deputy health minister Steve Brine expressed willingness to expand cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceutical and scientific fields between the two countries, adding that “There are untapped investment potentials in these areas”.

He also admired Iran’s healthcare reform plan and announced readiness to help Iran implement the plan successfully.

The healthcare reform plan, aiming at decreasing the out-of-pocket expenses for the patients, promoting natural birth, and supporting underprivileged patients suffering from rare or incurable diseases, was launched in the country in May 2014.

Hamid Baeedinejad, Iran’s ambassador to London, for his part, said that the Iranian health sector holds great opportunities which can be profitable for British investors.

Several expert roundtables were held on the sidelines of the event with the main theme of modern medical technologies. Meanwhile, areas of cooperation and ways for removing barriers were also discussed.

Mount Damavand is the highest peak in Iran and the highest volcano in Asia.
