Efficacy is the miracle of Khayyam poetry: Serbian academic

TEHRAN – Serbian Professor Darko Tanaskovic has that efficacy is the absolute miracle of the poems of the Persian poet and scientist Omar Khayyam.

He made the remarks in a meeting organized at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Center on Thursday to celebrate the Khayyam millennium.

The messages of his poetry are so obvious that they directly make a positive impact upon people’s thoughts and this is the miracle of his poetry,” he mentioned.

He added that there have been many translations of Khayyam’s works but not all of them have been accurate.

We cannot expect to enter the world and thoughts of Khayyam through translations; his message about knowledge and science is full of wonders,” he added.

A number of Persian literature aficionados and experts on Persian mathematician, astronomer and poet Omar Khayyam took part in the Khayyam millennium celebration, which was organized by the Iranian Society of Cultural Works and Luminaries.

Iranian scholar Gholamreza Avani also called Khayyam one of the few Persian poets and philosophers whose “literature was unique in the world.

Khayyam is chiefly known to English-speaking readers through the translation by the English writer Edward Fitzgerald of a collection of his rubaiyat (quatrains) in the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
